Peace and Social Change Workshop at Columbia University | May 21-22, 2018

We are now accepting applications to participate in the upcoming two-day Peace and Social Change Workshop happening May 21-22, 2018, from our Women, Peace and Security team.

The workshop is designed to generate knowledge, build skills, strengthen relationships and exchange strategies amongst front-line advocates and organizers working within the United States on issues of racial and gender justice and social change. I am interested in participating in the Peace and Social Change workshop but am not based in the United States. Can I still apply?

For this round, we are only accepting applications from frontline activists and organizers based in the United States. However, there will be upcoming opportunities for folks outside of The United States in the future.

Who is facilitating the workshop and what topics will be covered?

The Peace and Social Change workshop will be co-facilitated by Leymah GboweeMargo Okazawa-Rey,  Maria Torre, Mikaela Luttrell-Rowland and participants themselves. The workshop is designed to generate knowledge, build skills, strengthen relationships and exchange strategies amongst front-line advocates and organizers working within the United States. Discussion topics will include (but are not limited to) the intersections of racial justice, sexual violence, violence against women and gender non-conforming individuals, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, economic disparity and inequality, police brutality, mass incarceration, environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, immigrant rights, and women’s human rights.

I would like to participate in this workshop but do not have funding for flight and hotel accommodations in NYC. What should I do?

The WPS program will cover all costs for workshop participants related to travel, lodging, and meals throughout the May workshop.

I am unable to attend the entire two day workshop but would still like to attend for part of it. Is this possible?

The WPS team is committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment during the two day workshop. One of our main goals is to facilitate conversation and relationship building amongst frontline activists from across the United States. For this reason, we are only accepting applications from folks who are able to commit to attending the entire workshop.

Where can I submit a proposal to present a paper/ workshop to workshop attendees?

We are not considering separate applications for panels or presentations.
