Beyond Conflict: Film Clip Screening and Collaborative Conversation with Combatants for Peace

Documentary Clip Screening of Disturbing the Peace & Discussion
On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, AC4 will screen a summary clip of the award-winning documentary Disturbing the Peace, followed by a facilitated discussion with representatives from American Friends for Combatants for Peace, including both Palestinian and Israeli speakers, who have come together to work toward peace and justice.
The film follows former enemy combatants from both sides of the divide, chronicling their transformational journeys from soldiers committed to armed conflict into nonviolent peace activists. Both the film and guest presenters will speak on behalf of the work of Combatants for Peace, an egalitarian, bi-national, grassroots organization that was founded on the belief that the cycle of violence can only be broken when Israelis and Palestinians join forces. Combatants for Peace is one of a handful of organizations, worldwide, in which former fighters on both sides of an active conflict have laid down their weapons and chosen to work together.
The event is part of the annual Perspectives on Peace series, co-hosted by the AC4 with support from partners at the Columbia University Master’s Program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at the School of Professional Studies, and the Morton Deutsch International Center on Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia’s Teachers College.
