Internship Opportunity with PRYDE (Youth Peace Education)

1. Background
Founded in 2011, PRYDE is a youth peace education organization that envisions a global community in which youths are full, proactive participants in the peaceful development of their communities. PRYDE aims to help communities affected by conflict in all forms facilitate a process of social transformation through youth engagement programs. These programs focus on peace education and life skills. Believing in the importance of community-directed development, PRYDE does this by partnering with communities to help them design and implement their own context-specific programs.

2. Purpose
PRYDE seeks an intern to assist the Program Specialist in key elements of PRYDE’s work. Assignments range for programmatic support to outreach efforts. Incumbent may also be asked to support PRYDE’s fundraising and administrative operations, as well, as part of the team.

3. Duties and Responsibilities
Specific assignments will vary depending on the interests of the incumbent and the needs of the organization, but may include:
– Developing training materials, under the guidance and direction of the Program Specialist;
– Contributing to the formulation of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks;
– Helping to ensure ethical programming;
– Engaging in outreach and communication efforts, including through online platforms;
– Supporting fundraising and operations efforts, including grant proposals and events; and
– Undertaking other tasks, as assigned.

4. Work Conditions
This position is work-from-home, with weekly meetings the Program Specialist. NY-based candidates preferred, but reasonable accommodations (such as Skype communication) can be made for the best candidate. The incumbent is expected to work at least 14 hours per week, under the supervision of the Program Specialist. This is a volunteer position; no monetary compensation or benefits are provided.

5. Qualifications
– B.A./B.S. in International Development, International Relations, Education, Peace and Conflict Studies, or related field required; Progress towards a graduate degree in related field preferred
– Relevant professional experience with NGOs, especially community-based programs, required
– Relevant professional experience in outreach and fundraising activities, desirable
– Experience in one or more developing countries, especially in Africa, desirable
– Strong, clear, and concise writing and communications skills, required
– Willingness and ability to work both independently and collaboratively, required
