The Auschwitz Institute is seeking a Communications Officer

The Auschwitz Institute is currently seeking a Communications Officer to join the team in our New York City headquarters. The position will be part-time with plans to go full-time in the near future. The deadline for application is June 1, 2013.

As Communications Officer, you will report to the Executive Director and the Alumni Network Coordinator, working closely with our small, tightly knit staff. Your role will be to direct the Auschwitz Institute’s messaging and communications across all outlets-web, e-mail, social media, press, and TV and to assist other staff on development, event planning, and policy research as needed. The Auschwitz Institute is a dynamic and rapidly growing organization. This position requires a detail-oriented self-starter with technical and communication skills, a passion for genocide prevention, and an ability to think and act creatively and strategically.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Content creation, maintenance, and technical oversight of AIPR website
  • Conceive and write e-mail newsletters for 1) general public and 2) program alumni. Newsletters for public highlight organizational goals and achievements. Newsletters for alumni highlight policy research on genocide and mass atrocity prevention, and report-backs from program alumni on their work.
  • Conceive and implement strategy for AIPRs Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube channels, and blog. Post or oversee posting to social networks on daily basis. Post or oversee posts to blog at least two to three times weekly. Recruit and supervise interns to assist with social media and blog as needed.
  • Develop and maintain media contacts (including press and TV) to promote AIPR activities and accomplishments
  • Maintain regular communication with staff and board to identify messaging needs and opportunities
  • Monitor metrics for website, e-mail, and social media, producing monthly reports using results to work with staff to achieve organizational goals
  • Write, produce, publish and publicize reports on AIPR events, including taking photographs and/or video
  • Add, edit, and maintain contact records in Constant Contact, AIPR’s e-mail platform
  • Add, edit, and maintain contact records in vBulletin, AIPR’s alumni network platform
  • Work with staff to prepare and produce annual reports and program and promotional materials as needed
  • Work with staff and board to implement online fundraising campaigns
