SMBI MA Degree Program Description: The Spirituality Mind Body Institute’s (SMBI) Summer Intensive Master’s Degree Program at Teachers College (TC) Columbia University is the first Ivy League graduate program dedicated to merging spirituality and evidence-based research within the context of clinical psychology.  The SMBI Summer Intensive provides an innovative framework in which students translate their inner journeys into outer change. This program offers both in person and synchronous online courses during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Position Overview:

Key member of the SMBI team reporting to the SMBI Master’s Degree Program Director, while interacting with Teachers College Faculty, departmental course assistants, and team members in the Academic Technology and Media Services Departments. The coordinator oversees the operational and logistical aspects of the online programming for the SMBI and Counseling and Clinical Psych. Dept. (CCPD) in an effort to optimize the student learning experience, ensuring effective delivery of quality online courses and programs including LMS and web conferencing use, and is responsible for the daily oversight of all Online Course Assistants (OCAs) within the SMBI and CCPD.

Duties:

  • Liaison between SMBI Faculty, OCA’s and other dept’s including TC’s Media Services and Academic Technology

  • Work creatively with dept’s to offer the best possible technology for faculties individual needs

  • Manage OCA’s; who are are student volunteers

  • Act as an advocate for Faculty and OCA’s

  • Identify, resolve, and report challenges, difficulties, and tech problems that arise

  • Skillfully pair faculty with appropriate OCA’s

  • Proactively work to improve online programming

  • Periodically check-in with Faculty and OCA’s to ensure courses and technology are running smoothly

  • Oversee SMBI LMS for online courses

Projects and tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Director of SMBI Summer Intensive Master’s Degree Program and Online Course Assistants to implement online academic programing and events, meetings every 2 weeks

  • Training faculty and students in August of each year

  • Responding to emails from SMBI Staff, Faculty and Students in timely manner

  • Attend courses and events to ensure the program is running smoothly

  • Assist with additional SMBI online programming (events, admitted student webinars, etc.)

  • Troubleshoot technology utilizing available support,  adhering to reporting systems

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of higher education institutions and culture, particularly in academic and student affairs;

  • Knowledge of academic technology; LMS and web conferencing

  • Detail oriented; skilled multi-tasker with team player approach; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines;

  • Ability to oversee and manage teams of student volunteers;

  • Excellent judgment and proven ability to problem-solve;

  • Sensitivity to confidentiality of student and faculty records;

  • Strong computer skills (word processing, Canvas LMS, Web Conferencing Platforms, some spreadsheet and/or database capabilities);

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: both oral and written;

  • Strong customer-service orientation;

  • Task-oriented with proven ability to obtain results and meet deadlines;

  • Flexibility to adjust to the needs of a dynamic and rapidly growing program

  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Synchronous online classroom experience

  • Online Course Assistant experience

Commitment:

Average 10 hours / week

On call for emergencies

Flexible schedule that can respond to immediate needs
