o Lokashakti is an innovative new nonprofit building mobile and web-based solutions for activists / organizations dedicated to peace and social justice. We are currently seeking designers and front/back-end (PHP/MySQL) developers at all levels of experience, interested in expanding their technical skills while assisting in the critical thinking, planning, and strategizing involved in creating social web services tailored to the needs of activists and activist groups. As an emerging organization undergoing rapid development, we offer with these positions a terrific opportunity to help build momentum for a great number of exciting projects and movements throughout the world.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All levels of experience will be considered, both for the development and design positions. Ideal candidates for web development will have intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of PHP and MySQL, as well as experience developing within Joomla! or comparable frameworks using MVC architecture. Front-end developers should have a solid grasp on HTML/CSS and standards-compliant coding practices, and should have experience with JavaScript and jQuery. Designers should have excellent working knowledge of Adobe software, issues of browser compatibility, and front-end web development including HTML/CSS. They should also haveexperience designing for the web, as well as good intuition for general user experience. This internship is unpaid, although it could eventually evolve into a paid position. Our office is located just south of Columbia University.

QUALIFICATIONS: To staff this position we are currently looking for detail-oriented students with a passion for peace and social justice who find it easy to excel at whatever task is put before them. In addition to help with general fundraising and office management, candidates will assist in writing grants, creating web content, and implementing promotional strategies online, in person, and over the phone as we launch our brand new web resource. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain valuable experience working with all aspects of a nascent and growing nonprofit organization. Although the internship is unpaid, university credit will of course be made available.
