Dr. Narayan is an award winning development and gender specialist, who was selected as one of 100 most influential foreign policy specialists in 2011 by Foreign Policy magazine and also as one of India’s 30 great minds by India Today in 2011. She was senior adviser on poverty policies and empowerment of poor people in the Vice-Presidency of Poverty reduction and economic management at the World Bank and earlier at the United Nations. She works with women using creative body based techniques for self-empowerment. She has published over 15 books.
