A crisis and hostage negotiator is a law enforcement conflict resolution expert who applies their skills in situations that are tense, (potentially) volatile, and where lives can be at risk. Although their work is unique, many similarities exist with other conflict resolution professionals.

This research provides ten mistakes crisis/hostage negotiators have made in situations and offers ways to avoid them in a manner that is directly applicable to other conflict resolution professionals, practitioners, and volunteers.
