The National Peace Academy, in partnership with Pasos Peace Museum, is hosting a special evening event in conjunction with the exhibit, “A Peace of My Mind.” Corresponding with NPA’s 4-year anniversary, the event will feature the stories of everyday peacebuilders and their journeys in becoming agents of change.

The National Peace Academy believes that peace is everybody’s business and that peace is something that can be learned. These stories illuminate the diverse learning paths taken by peacebuilders working on many different dimensions of the peacebuilding task, from gender violence to educating youth to ecological sustainability. The evening also complements the exhibit, “A Peace of My Mind,” which features thoughts about peace from people from all walks of life.

What is a peacebuilder? The National Peace Academy makes use of John Paul Lederach’s conceptualization of peacebuilding, which he describes as “a comprehensive concept that encompasses, generates and sustains the full array of processes, approaches and stages needed to transform conflict toward more sustainable, peaceful relationships” (Lederach, 1997). Peacebuilders are everywhere among us. They are concerned citizens and activists engaged in many different processes of conflict transformation, working to mend, nurture and build right relationships and to create those conditions that must be present for right relationships to flourish.
