ALAS First Annual Music Festival

Artistic Responses to Conflict: Transforming Violence into Music.
An informal conversation with Cesar Lopez and Caring for Columbia

Come join Colombian musician Cesar Lopez and the Caring for Colombia
Foundation for a discussion on how music and art is being used as a
transformational tool to build a more peaceful society in Colombia and
empower individuals.

When: Friday, December 7th, 12:00PM
Where: Russel Hall 306 (Teacher College, Columbia University 525 West 120th Street)

Cesar Lopez, world renown peace activist and musician, is the inventor of the escopetarra. The escopetarra is an assault rifle used during the Colombian armed conflict that he transformed into a guitar. The escopetarra is so much a symbol of peace and hope that is on display at the United Nations and has been gifted to a number of peace activists around the world.

Caring for Colombia aims to heal vulnerable communities in Colombia through art, music, education, and health programs. Since its inception, CFC has been generating resources to support programs that target vulnerable children and young Colombians who have been hit the hardest by violence and displacement as a result of the nation’s internal conflict. CFC supports programs that use music and art as tools of transformational change that enrich young peoples lives by building discipline, self-esteem, confidence, and community solidarity.

And make to join us later for Cesar Lopez’s concert at 6:30 in Cowin Auditorium on December 7th. For more information on the concert and to RSVP, please click on the following link:
