“How to Negotiate for What You Need”
followed by a Networking Reception
Whether you are a graduate student, faculty member or non-academic professional, negotiating effectively can make a big difference in the outcome and the satisfaction of both parties. Dr. Masur will discuss strategies that can help you negotiate well.
Association of Women in Science (AWIS) is a national association of women across all disciplines of science. AWIS is today’s premier leadership organization advocating the interests of women in science and technology. For nearly 40 years, the AWIS has fought for equity and career advancement for women – from the bench to the board room.
Dr. Masur is an accomplished Professor of Ophthalmology and Associate Professor of Structural and Chemical Biology at the Mount Sinai Hospital. She is a dynamic champion for Women in Science as Director of Office for Women’s Careers at Mount Sinai Hospital. She oversees ‘Just Desserts,’ which spotlights an outstanding woman physician or scientist at Mount Sinai in an informal setting – with plenty of desserts. In her words: “Achieving diversity by the increased inclusion of women and other underrepresented groups in the faculty of medical schools and universities in the US is an ongoing challenge. Despite women’s increased access to and success in medical school and graduate training in biomedical sciences, there continues to be significant fall-off in the percent of women at every step along the postgraduate ladder in academia.”
