Existence of Climate Change Questioned by President Trump

In a tweet on November 21, 2018, President Trump appeared to suggest that recent cold weather disproves the existence of climate change. Citing low temperatures in much of the U.S., President Trump tweeted: “Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS – Whatever happened to Global Warming?”

The President’s statement was criticized by climate scientists, who argued that it confused short-term weather trends with longer-term changes in climate. Many emphasized that there is “nothing unusual” about cold weather in the U.S. in November. Others noted that, globally, average temperatures remain well above pre-industrial levels.
