Tennessee v. Chevron

Tennessee established a taxpayer-funded pool of money to reimburse operators of Tennessee gas stations for spill cleanup costs. It is by law a financial resource of last resort, not to replace private insurance. The state filed a lawsuit in the circuit court alleging that Chevron had been double recovering from the fund and from its private insurance. As of Feb. 2017, the court had yet to reach a verdict in the case.
