USDA Staff Told to Avoid References to “Climate Change”

Staff at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a U.S. Department of Agriculture unit that oversees farmers’ land conservation, were told to avoid using the term “climate change” in their work. An email from Bianca Moebius-Clune, director of soil health at NRCS, listed terms that should be avoided by staff and offered replacements. “Climate change” is to be replaced with “weather extremes,” “climate change adaption” with “resilience to weather extremes,” “reduce greenhouse gases” with “build soil organic matter, increase nutrient use efficiency” and “sequester carbon” with “build soil organic matter.”
