Research Funding Reallocated by HHS

On September 5, 2018, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) notified the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies that it “plans to reallocate $266 million in Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 funding for the Unaccompanied Alien Children program.” Of the $266 million, $80 million will come “from refugee programs within the Office of Refugee Resettlement,” and “$186 million . . . from other FY2018 HHS resources.” Approximately $87.3 million will be transferred from research and other programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including $13.3 million from the National Cancer Institute and $12.1 million from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
