References to “Climate Change” Removed from NIH Website
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), a division of the National Institutes of Health (which falls under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) dedicated to the study of the environment and its effects on human health, deleted multiple references to “climate change” from its website. Most of the deletions affected page titles and subheadings, with the term “climate change” remaining in the body text of several pages.
NIEHS also removed links to an educational fact sheet on climate change from two separate pages, and a page dedicated to explaining the environmental impacts of climate change.
| Update: On February 27, 2018, members of the House of Representatives Safe Climate Caucus wrote to President Trump to protest the removal of climate change information from federal agency websites. The Caucus members expressed “concern” that the removals “fundamentally interfere with the American public’s ability to access reliable information” about climate change and thus may “violate the intent of the Federal Records Act.” |
