Forensic Science Committee Disbanded
On April 10, 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that he would not renew the National Commission on Forensic Science. The thirty member advisory panel, consisting of scientists, judges, and lawyers, was established by the Obama administration in 2013 to review forensic science standards. It will be replaced by a new senior forensics advisor to the Department of Justice. A subcommittee within the Department of Justice’s task force on violent crime will also consider forensics issues.
