Florida Citrus Department Budget Cuts Proposed for 2017-18

On July 21, 2017, the Florida Citrus Commission approved a preliminary budget for the Department of Citrus in 2017-18. The Department, which is funded through a box tax on citrus, was expected to have total revenues of $17.5 million in 2017-18. That represents a $4.9 million (22 percent) decline compared to the previous year. To offset this decline, the Department proposed to reduce spending on scientific research, as well as global marketing programs.
