EPA Staff Prevented from Attending Climate Conference

A report from December 2, 2017 indicates that seventeen Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staffers were prevented from attending the Alaska Forum on the Environment. The annual forum brings together 1,800 people from Native Alaska communities, government agencies, and the public to discuss climate-related issues, including melting permafrost and risks to villages from rising sea levels. Thirty-four EPA staffers had been registered for the forum, but only half were allowed to attend. EPA officials indicated that the number of attendees had been limited due to “concerns about cost.”
