DOE-Funded Scientists Told Not to Reference “Climate Change”

On August 25, 2017, Nature reported that multiple researchers receiving grants from the Department of Energy (DOE) had been asked to remove references to “climate change” and “global warming” from the description of their projects.

On December 12, 2017, it emerged that the DOE request had been ordered by senior managers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request suggest the request was prompted by President Trump’s budget request and was intended to protect scientists against future grant cuts.
