DOE Advisory Board Disbanded
The Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB), which has provided advise to past secretaries of the Department of Energy (DOE), was not used in 2017. According to a report by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), “[a]t the start of the Trump administration, as is customary in presidential transitions, all but one of the SEAB’s 19 members wrote to Energy Secretary Perry offering to resign.” This offer was never officially accepted and the DOE’s website continues to list all 19 as SEAB members. However, a DOE spokesperson told UCS that the SEAB “was sunset in January 2017, and there are no plans to reconstitute it at the moment.”
Update: On February 8, 2019, DOE re-established the SEAB. In a notice published in the Federal Register, DOE indicated that the first meeting of the new SEAB would held on March 5, 2019.
On February 20, 2019, DOE announced that the following the following individuals had been appointed as members of the SEAB:
Additional members are expected to be appointed in the future, with DOE indicating that the February 20 announcement “is the first of multiple installments of the board.” |
