Climate Science Misrepresented by Florida Governor
In September 2017, after touring areas affected by Hurricane Irma, Florida Governor Rick Scott erroneously suggested that climate change may be the result of natural cycles and not caused by human activities. He told reporters:
“Clearly our environment changes all the time, and whether that’s cycles we’re going through or whether that’s man-made, I wouldn’t be able to tell you which one it is.”
Governor Scott’s statement was criticized by scientists, who pointed to extensive research showing that anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are the primary cause of climate change.
