Climate Change Dropped from National Security Strategy
On December 18, 2017, President Trump unveiled a new National Security Strategy, which omitted “climate change” as a threat. Previous National Security Strategies, adopted during the Obama and Bush administrations, had listed climate change as a key threats facing the U.S.
The Federalist website, which first reported that climate change would be dropped from the National Security Strategy, quoted a draft document which suggested the Trump administration would oppose efforts to reduce the burning of oil, gas and coal for energy. The website quoted the document as saying: “US leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth energy agenda that is detrimental to US economic and energy security interests.”
