Bill to Abolish Agricultural Advisory Boards Introduced in Nevada

On November 16, 2016, a bill (Assembly Bill 33) was introduced in the Nevada House of Representatives that would, if enacted, abolish three agricultural advisory boards. These are:

  • the Garlic and Onion Growers Advisory Board, which oversees research on the production, harvesting, processing, distribution, and market promotion of garlic and onions;
  • the Alfalfa Seed Advisory Board, which oversees research on the production, harvesting, processing, distribution, and market promotion of alfalfa seed;
  • the Advisory Council for Organic Agricultural Products, which provides information and educational services on the certification process for producers and handlers of organic agricultural products.
UpdateOn April 17, 2017, the Nevada House of Representatives voted to adopt Assembly Bill 33. The following day, the bill was referred to the Senate, which voted to adopt it on May 11, 2017. On May 19, 2017, Assembly Bill 33 was signed into law by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval.
