Summary: The Tennessee attorney general (AG) filed a lawsuit against the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC). The lawsuit alleges that coal ash pollution from one of TVA’s power plants is seeping into groundwater and the Cumberland River, in violation of the Tennessee Solid Waste Management Act and the Tennessee Water Quality Control Act. The AG and DEC filed the lawsuit after receiving notice that the Southern Environmental Law Center intended to sue TVA over this matter. The suit is currently set for trial in October 2017.
