Senate Votes to Repeal BLM Planning 2.0 Rule

The Senate passed a resolution (H.J. Res. 44) to overturn the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s Planning 2.0 Rule. This is one of several disapproval resolutions introduced under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) in an effort to roll back regulations adopted by the Obama administration. The House passed H.J. Res. 44 in February.

BLM had adopted the Planning 2.0 rule to improve it’s ability to respond to changing conditions and implement landscape-level management approaches that transcend traditional administrative boundaries. The rule also contained provisions aimed at ensuring that BLM officials incorporate the most current data and technology into their plans and reviews.  One goal of the rule was to allow BLM to more readily address changing conditions on public lands caused by climate change.

The resolution will now go to President Trump for his signature.
