Minerals for Climate Action: Why Climate Smart Mining Matters for Africa?

The clean energy transition will be extremely mineral intensive. The Climate Smart Mining Initiative seeks to enable mineral-rich developing countries to benefit from the increasing demand for strategic minerals, while effectively decarbonizing and reducing the material footprint of the mining sector. At the Mining Indaba conference in South Africa, GIZ, the World Bank, CCSI, and Fauna & Flora International presented the initiative and collected feedback on what the initiative should focus on going forward.
